Beaded Jewelry

Tour Stop 8:
Whimsy

With a degree in art and a masters in art education, I began my journey teaching elementary, middle school and high school students art as well as managing an art gallery in Pennsylvania. After years of teaching and promoting other people's artwork, I decided it was time to focus on my own work. After I explored everything from painting residential and commercial murals to throwing pottery, I stumbled upon bead embroidery.

For the last 10 years my entire focus has been on creating beaded wearable art. Stitching one tiny bead at a time onto a felt-like canvas is much like a painter creating a painting one stroke at a time. I create earrings, cuffs, pendants, brooches and handbags. I find inspiration in the colors and shapes of the materials I use. Using fine materials such as Swarovski crystals, gemstones and pearls along with personal found objects like buttons off a family member's coat, my pieces often tell a story.
